Fairy tales

 To kick off World Book Week this week year 2 joined in a virtual workshop with authors Michael Rosen and  Jasbinder Bilan and illustrator Allen Fatimaharan. The workshop was hosted by the British Library and we learnt that the British Library have a copy of every single book ever published in the United Kingdom! We listened to Michael Rosen reading the story of Goldilocks and the Three Crocodiles and Jasminder reading the story of The Snake Prince, a traditional story from the Punjab. They talked to us about the ingredients of a fairy story including magical objects, strange stories and characters and we thought of some ingredients for our own fairy story and drew pictures of them. Finally Allen showed us how to draw an amazing snake!

English Lo: to perform poetry

 Inspired by our visit from the poet Tony Peek, earlier in the week, we have started looking at some poetry in our English lessons. We thought about what poems are and listened to some performances of some famous poems including Macavity the mystery cat, Life doesn’t frighten me at all by Maya Angelou and From a railway carriage by Robert Louis Stevenson. We then had a go at practising reading and performing some of these poems before learning a little bit of Please Mrs Butler by Allan Ahlberg off by heart.

PE- Apparatus

 This week, we used the different pieces of equipment to help us practice our balances. We had to be super still and focussed to use the high balance beam. Our core muscles really got a work out.
