2022-24 Year 2 Blog

 Today we welcomed a visitor in year 2, Mrs Riches, who came to run a singing workshop with us. We did some fun warm up rhythm games, a Christmas rap and even some harmony which we sang in rounds! We then learnt a Christmas song which was tricky but Mrs Riches was very impressed with our singing.

 In music this week we have started looking at the musical term beat. We understand that the beat in music is a bit like our heartbeats, it keeps going and never stops through the whole piece of music, although it can get faster and slower. We listened carefully to some short pieces of music about toys- soldiers, dinosaurs and pogo sticks. We then practised moving around the classroom to these different pieces of music which had different beats - some were slow and some faster, and different word patterns. We finally tried to out all three different patterns together at the same time, trying to keep together to a steady beat! 

 In music this week we have been learning a song for harvest. The class learnt it really quickly and performed it well- if you would like to watch there is a clip of Compton class performing some of it below! Also as part of our music lessons every week we listen to a piece of music and respond to it- drawing a picture of what we think of when we listen to the music, writing down words to describe the music and writing about how the music makes us feel. 

 In music every week we start by doing some singing, this week we are learning a song about autumn. We then listen to the music of the week. This weeks music is Hound Dog by Elvis Presley which most of the children have really enjoyed as they said it made them want to dance! We have then been thinking about using our voices to make different vocal sounds. We thought about cats and dogs and how we know how they are feeling without being told. We pretended to be cats and had a cat conversation to see if others in the class could guess how we were feeling! 

 In music this week we have been looking at vocal sounds and thinking about how we can make different sounds with our voices. We listened to a poem about likes and dislikes and then added vocal sounds to the end of each line.  Watch a recording of our performance below:
