No outsiders

Image
Today as part of our assemblies on the idea of no outsiders, we did some work. We looked at the book Can I join your club and thought about what a club is. In the story duck eventually sets up his own club which includes everyone after being rejected himself from other clubs. We talked about similarities and differences and then drew posters to show Our club and the fact that everyone is approved.

Design Technology

In design technology we have been looking at puppets, today we made our own finger puppets. We made templates and cut the felt out and then glued extra bits onto the puppets to make them into the characters we had designed, we then glued them together.

Re day

On Thursday it was a whole school RE day. In year 2 we looked at the concept of special food. We started by talking about how food can be special and what makes it special. We talked about how sharing food with our families and not having it very often can make it special. We drew pictures of our own special foods. We then thought about special foods that Christians might share, we learnt about Holy Communion and how Christians believe that the bread and wine represent Jesus blood and body. Finally we learnt a little about prasad and how special food plays a role in Hindu worship.

Computing - Online Safety

Image
Today in Year 2 Computing, we have been talking about online safety. We have read a story about Smartie the Penguin, who needed some help deciding the right choices to make online. We were really good at giving Smartie suggestions and were really sensible in the decisions we made.

Literary Festival

Today we were lucky to welcome in author Cliff McNish who came to talk to us about his books The Winter Wolf and Going Home. He told us about all the dogs in his life and the books he has written about these dogs. We then had a go at drawing and designing our own puppies which we could use in a book.

National poetry day

Image
This week we have celebrated  National Poetry Day. The theme this year was refuge and we talked about what a refuge is. We discovered that a refuge is a safe place so we talked about our safe places. We read a poem called Nature Trail by Benjamin Zephaniah which is all about a garden being a refuge and safe place for animals.  We then drew and painted pictures of our own safe places before writing poems using our senses to describe our safe places.
