English Lo: to use similes to describe

 Today in English we learnt about similes. We learnt that similes use the words like or as to compare two things and describe. We worked in groups to think of similes to describe monsters. We then looked at our own monster designs from yesterday and thought of similes to describe the different parts of our monsters body. 

Phonics: LO: I can read and spell words with alternate /or/ grapheme

 Here is a photo of the children’s spellings of the alternate spellings for the sound /or/. Handwriting is lovely too!

History LO: I can use resources to find out about Mary Anning

We used ‘slow reveal’ on a picture of Mary Anning to find out information about her life and why she was famous. We then became amateur scientists and carefully revealed  fossils on our pretend beach!!  

English Lo: to design our own monster and use expanded noun phrases to describe

 In English today we started looking at our new book Monsters: an owners guide. We looked at the first few pages of the book and then thought about what our monster would look like if we bought one, we designed our monster, gave it a name and labelled it with adjectives to describe its body parts. 

English Lo: to interpret a poem

 We started something new in English this week, looking at a new book. We started off by looking at a poem and trying to work out what the poem was describing, drawing a picture of what we thought the poem was describing. 

Art Lo: to learn about Andy Goldsworthy

 In art this term we are going to be looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy who is an artist who creates his work using natural materials including leaves, twigs, stones and even animal dung! Today we learnt some facts about him and created our own fact sheets.
