Year 2 Blog

 In history today we started our new topic learning about The Great Fire of London. We became detectives and looked at various clues designed to help us find out how the fire started. We looked through the clues to find the answers and then learnt a bit more about how the fire started. 

 Today in art we looked at our paintings from a few weeks ago, we stuck them into our sketchbooks and then wrote notes about the colours and techniques used to create the paintings. We thought about primary colours and secondary colours and mixing.  We then looked at the idea of continuous line drawing. We looked at some work by the artist TheConstant Doodler who creates his drawings without taking his pen off the paper! We then had a go ourselves- it was harder than it looked! 

 In English today we started looking at a new book all about the Great Fire of London. We started by thinking about what we already know about London and using some words to describe modern London. We then designed posters all about London to encourage people to visit. Some of the posters were amazing! 

 In English this week we have been looking at poetry. Today we looked at the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright. We read the poem and then made our own magic boxes. We then thought about what we would put in our magic boxes before trying to write our own version of the poem. There were some amazing ideas and poems! 

 In DT this term we are looking at making pizzas. Today we thought about the base for our pizzas- we thought about the fact that pizza base is made of bread and started by thinking of different types of bread we could use as a base. We then tasted different types of bread and thought about which would be best for a pizza base and why.
