Dinosaur Isle Trip

The children all had a fantastic time visiting Dinosaur Isle. We started the day walking to Yaverland beach to hunt for fossils. We then headed back for lunch with all our finds. During the afternoon, both classes had a talk from a dinosaur expert and we looked at lots of interesting fossils. We also explored the dinosaur museum before heading home.

English Lo: to perform poetry

 Inspired by our visit from the poet Tony Peek, earlier in the week, we have started looking at some poetry in our English lessons. We thought about what poems are and listened to some performances of some famous poems including Macavity the mystery cat, Life doesn’t frighten me at all by Maya Angelou and From a railway carriage by Robert Louis Stevenson. We then had a go at practising reading and performing some of these poems before learning a little bit of Please Mrs Butler by Allan Ahlberg off by heart.

Geography Lo: to locate the seven continents on a world map.

Today we learned that a continent is a group of countries. We learnt that there are seven continents and we learnt the names of them. RE: light as a symbol

 During RE day yesterday Year 2 thought about the idea of candles and light as a symbol. We thought about how we use candles, for example on a birthday cake. We then learnt about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah and the Christian celebration of advent and how both religions use candlelight to help them remember special events in their religion. We then made our own candle holders out of salt dough.
