English Lo: to write a setting description

 In English this week we have been looking at the book Journey, we found a magic door and thought about what might be through the door. We drew pictures and then went on to write our own setting description. There were some fantastic descriptions and we have written them up on doors to put on the wall.

Today we learned that a continent is a group of countries. We learnt that there are seven continents and we learnt the names of them. English Lo: to perform poetry

 Inspired by our visit from the poet Tony Peek, earlier in the week, we have started looking at some poetry in our English lessons. We thought about what poems are and listened to some performances of some famous poems including Macavity the mystery cat, Life doesn’t frighten me at all by Maya Angelou and From a railway carriage by Robert Louis Stevenson. We then had a go at practising reading and performing some of these poems before learning a little bit of Please Mrs Butler by Allan Ahlberg off by heart.

National poetry day

 This week we have celebrated  National Poetry Day. The theme this year was refuge and we talked about what a refuge is. We discovered that a refuge is a safe place so we talked about our safe places. We read a poem called Nature Trail by Benjamin Zephaniah which is all about a garden being a refuge and safe place for animals.  We then drew and painted pictures of our own safe places before writing poems using our senses to describe our safe places.
