Today as part of our assemblies on the idea of no outsiders, we did some work. We looked at the book Can I join your club and thought about what a club is. In the story duck eventually sets up his own club which includes everyone after being rejected himself from other clubs. We talked about similarities and differences and then drew posters to show Our club and the fact that everyone is approved.
Our first English unit of work this year is going to be based around the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We started this week by reading some different versions of the story and comparing what was the same about them and what was different. We then thought about the characters of Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf and thought of some adjectives to describe them before learning about expanded noun phrases and writing some of our own.
During RE day yesterday Year 2 thought about the idea of candles and light as a symbol. We thought about how we use candles, for example on a birthday cake. We then learnt about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah and the Christian celebration of advent and how both religions use candlelight to help them remember special events in their religion. We then made our own candle holders out of salt dough.
